People who enjoy chameleons see markets closing for these amazing creatures.   Finding breeders inside the country are our best hope of continuing to be able to find a diverse variety of chameleons available to the public.

I agree that supporting domestic breeders is crucial for preserving chameleon diversity.

Animals have been an interest to me from my earliest memory.  Being raised in the country on the farm exposed me to many animals.

My mother's friend owned an exotic bird shop in Colorado.  There I had the opportunity to handle parrots of all sorts.  Hand feeding baby macaws, parrots, cockatoos and even little parakeets was truly amazing.

We had several birds and then a yellow nape parrot, Poncho, chose me to be his friend after his owner died.  No one else could touch Poncho, but my experience at the bird shop quickly helped me establish a bond with him.

Soon the ocean became my next intrique.   Soon I became an abalone diver enthusiast.  Diving with friends and camping on the beach was the best !

Building Koi ponds sent me to the pet stores where more and more I became fascinated with the chameleons I passed by to fish tanks.  Finally I purchased my first chameleon and learned how to develope a eco friendly habitat for it.  That was the beginning of a fascinating trip down the path of developing a colony for my chameleons which quickly filled our vacant dairy barn.

Settling in the Northwest, I have gather a large variety of chameleons with new babies hatching on a regular basis.  Friends and visitors are fascinated when searching through the jungle foliage trying to spot a hidden chameleon and thrilled when they do !
